Greetings again there,
As we're already a week into June, Pride month is in full swing! Pride is a time to celebrate who we are and who we love. It's a testament to our resilience, our shared history, and the power of love in its infinite forms. Pride isn't just a month-long celebration, it's a state of mind, a testament to human rights, and a vibrant tribute to the strength of the LGBTQ+ community.
I have a deep personal investment in Pride. As a transgender woman and an advocate for diversity, equality, and inclusion, Pride isn't just about the rainbow flags or parades for me. Itβs a reminder of the progress we've made, and yet, the stark realities that still confront us daily. Yes, Pride is a celebration, but let's not forget, it is also a protest - a rally cry for justice, equality, and the right to live openly and authentically.
While we must acknowledge the victories and strides made in advancing LGBTQ+ rights, we must also recognise the ongoing struggles. The path to true equality is still steep and laden with challenges. We celebrate, but we also continue the fight - for our rights, for recognition, for acceptance. Pride isn't just a party, it's a statement of solidarity, a stand for justice, and a beacon of hope.
Being a true ally goes beyond rainbow emojis and colourful merchandise. It's about standing up against discrimination, fostering inclusivity, and actively participating in the quest for equality. This Pride month, celebrate by educating yourself about the history and struggles of the LGBTQ+ community, using inclusive language, and supporting LGBTQ+ causes β not just in words, but in action.
In the business world, we have a responsibility to create inclusive workspaces where everyone, regardless of their identity or orientation, can thrive. When people feel valued, they perform better. This Pride month, take a step towards making your organisation more inclusive - whether it's implementing diversity training, revising HR policies, or simply creating a safe and welcoming space for dialogue and education.
Now, let's pose a difficult but necessary question: How much do we really know about the struggles that the LGBTQ+ community face? Discrimination, exclusion, and hate crimes are daily realities for many. I have experienced them firsthand. So have countless others in our community. It's a sobering reality that necessitates our collective action and empathy. Can we count on you to be an ally?
Remember, the road to equality is long and winding, but every step counts. Every conversation, every act of allyship, and every revision of an HR policy moves us closer to a more inclusive society. At SEE Change Happen, we are committed to fostering that change, one step at a time. As we celebrate this Pride month, let's also recommit to the ongoing fight for justice and equality.
Here's wishing everyone a truly meaningful, heartfelt Pride! Here's to progress, to love, to inclusion, and most importantly, to a better tomorrow.
Warm Regards,
Joanne Lockwood,
CEO & Founder of SEE Change Happen
